Vividus Supports Moreton Bay Dementia Alliance’s ‘Walk with Me 2020’

Vividus Supports Moreton Bay Dementia

Yesterday we attended the Moreton Bay Dementia Alliance’s official launch for their ‘Walk with Me 2020’ event.

‘Walk with Me’ is an annual event aimed at raising awareness and support for those of us living with dementia, Australia’s second leading cause of death.

The launch, hosted by Home Instead Senior Care in Margate, was a small, colourful and Covid-19 safe event, and was attended by a selection of distinguished guests, including Dr Christian Rowan MP, the State Member for Moggill.

Other guests included Kerri-Anne Dooley from Home Instead, Susan Cook from the Brisbane North PHN, Micah Lean from Encircle, Anne-Louise Underwood, the founder of MemBo Noticeboard, Cheree Ambrose from Hammond Care and our own Melissa Borody from Vividus.

Everyone used the event to start their own conversation about dementia, sharing community work, destigmatising the myths of dementia, and enjoying the yummy cupcakes on hand.

Dr Rowan, a father of four, and practicing specialist physician, is also the Shadow Minister for Communities, Disabilities and Seniors (among other portfolios), and we were very excited to have such a high-profile dignitary present.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this year’s event will be a virtual walk. Walkers are requested to obey social distancing rules, walk at their own leisure, and then simply post a picture of themselves to the ‘Walk with Me 2020’ Facebook event page, using the hashtag #WalkWithMe2020.

All posts to the ‘Walk with Me 2020’ Facebook event page, and using the hashtags #destigmatisingdementia and #WalkWithMe2020, will go into the draw to win a Fuji Instax mini 11 camera and a 100 pack of film.

The virtual walk will be during Dementia Action Week 21-27 September, a national awareness week beginning on 21 September, World Alzheimer’s Day.
