Improve your organic rankings in search engines

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a method of providing the best possible content that is relevant to your products or services that’s interpretable by search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo). In short, optimising your website for organic or ‘natural’ search engines rankings. These are the rankings that display under the paid advertising and essentially are ‘free’ clicks or ‘free’ traffic for your website. However there is a lot going on behind the scenes to ensure rankings occur.

A search engine’s purpose is to display the best possible results that it thinks is most relevant to that user’s search (based on keywords).

Think about it like this, as a potential customer for products and services, we all use a search engine (94% of Australia use Google). We use Google to conduct a search query (or to research) utilising core keywords or key phrases that is closely relevant to what it is we need are looking for. We’re constantly searching for information.

For example, if you were looking for a hand specialist in Brisbane, you’d likely search something along the lines of ‘hand specialist brisbane’. The intent behind these keywords is quite simple; the user is looking for an hand specialist that’s based in Brisbane. Google will then display what it thinks is the best possible results, based on that search query.

SEO (and other search marketing channels) is about putting a user in touch with a specific business, person or information. They’re searching for something but they don’t quite know where to find it yet. That’s why we rely on search engines. If they knew what they were looking for, they’d simply search for a brand or company name (known as a branded search).

Grow your SEO

As Google has been becoming more intelligent in recent years, they’ve released a number of different algorithm updates that can be very detrimental to websites. It’s this reason that out-dated SEO practices have become redundant and the industry quite tarnished.

SEO is becoming more and more important for businesses as they rely heavily on Google to drive traffic to their websites, ultimately resulting in more sales or enquiries. This is a ‘pull’ marketing method, as the demand exists online by people continually searching for such products and services. SEO should certainly be considered within your marketing mix as a priority.
